ARIMA BOYS' R.C. SCHOOL
Scouting
A.B.R.C.S. has the 7th Arima Scout Troop, the oldest in the Arima/Arouca District. In the past, the troop was guided by a retired teacher of the school, Ms. Yvonne Isaac, who succeeded Mesdames Joyce Ramcharan and Kathleen Richardson. This scout troop has been the champions of the district for many years and in 2002 competed successfully at the National Totem Pole Competition. In recent times our scout troop has not been a very active one, as Ms. Yvonne Isaac is no longer available to assist.
Unfortunately, efforts to re-vitalize the troop have not borne fruit and we are at the moment seeking assistance in doing same.
Chess
A.B.R.C.S. has in the past produced great players in the form of Ronnie Nelson, former National Under 8 champion and Keron Cabralis who currently held the title of National Under 16 Champion.
We no longer hold the title of having the number 1 chess team but young Keron, now a student of St. Mary’s College, is determined to change that. A beginner’s programme, initiated by Mr. Peter Joseph in conjunction with the Kings and Queens Chess Club and coached by Keron himself is now on stream. With this initiative in place we will soon be a talking point of the chess community once more.
Swimming
After a hiatus of about four years, swimming was once more introduced to the pupils of the infant to the standard two classes. It is hoped that even after the boys have passed the standard two level classes that their interest in swimming will continue and that parents/ guardians will organize for their children to continue their training in this healthy sporting/ recreational activity. The teacher in charge of our swimming programme is Ms. Leslie Ann Albert.
Gymnastics
In November 2009 our school introduced a gymnastic programme for the pupils of the infant to standard one classes. These classes are conducted by Mr. Edwin Arneaud a qualified Defence Force Physical Training Instructor and, as is with our swimming programme, the hope is that parents/ guardians will as far as possible, continue to encourage their charges in this healthy activity long after they have left their standard one classes. A school gymnastics team has now been established which competes regularly.
Karate
Karate classes are also offered at the school. The class meets on Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
